The Beat Meet is a friendly competition between producers. They all must use a sample kit provided by this site. The kit will usually contain a fair amount of drum sounds, a bassline, and 2 sample loops. All contestants are given about a week to filter, combine, sequence, and flip the samples however they wish.
This is so long overdue, that I lost count. The absence of Beat Meets doesn’t mean that they are going to stop anytime soon, with plenty more planned to keep you beat makers busy for the rest of this year!

This is the footage from the Beats Rhymes and Life Deathproof Beat battle in which producers have to samples songs from the soundtrack of Quentin Tarantino’s “Deathproof”/Grindhouse. The first two clips are mostly talking but it’s beats/music from there on out and we play the originals first so you can hear what folks are sampling.

There is a competition being hosted at the ToyotaMusic MySpace page right now, called “Rock the Space.” You have until July 1st, 2009 to submit your demo tape, and on September 17th, 2009 a winner will be announced, which will receive a record deal with MySpace records, along with $10,000 worth of Fender gear.
In addition to the Beat Meet, which brings lots of people to the site each month, we are also going to start posting other online and live battles. Lately, our good friend phillipdrummond has been throwing battles in the San Francisco / Bay Area – and in addition to the live battles, we would like to setup an online counterpart to each competition. The current battled is called “BeatFellas,” and all the details are below:

pOETiq has worked on a number of albums since he started working professionally in 96. He has worked on projects with En Vogue, Kiraly Linda Savina, Jaslyn Carter, and others. In Rap/Hip-Hop, he has done work for The Team, Bill Stack, Lady L.U.S.T., Kandi Cole, Carl B., Cal Cuta, Planet Asia, Rasco, Verbal Tactiks, and a host of local artists. In Gospel music, pOETiq has worked with Kathi Mills and Lawrence Matthews and even produced music for the Childrens Choir and The Youth & Youing Adult Choir at the Paradise Baptist Church where he is one of the choir directors.
